When most people picture vacation drinks, they immediately think of colorful cocktails by the pool.
And while there's certainly nothing wrong with that, some of my favorite drinks from around the world have contained exactly zero alcohol.
Whether you don't drink for personal reasons, medical reasons, you're the designated driver, or you simply enjoy trying local flavors, there has never been a better time to travel. Resorts, cruise lines, and destinations around the world are embracing handcrafted zero-proof beverages that are every bit as beautiful and memorable as their alcoholic counterparts.
Here are a few of my favorites that deserve a spot on your travel bucket list.
1. Kona Coffee - Hawaii
If you've followed my travels, you know this one tops my list.
There's something special about sipping freshly roasted Kona coffee while overlooking the volcanic slopes where it was grown. During my visit to the Big Island, I discovered some incredible local coffee farms, and honestly, it may have been the best coffee I've ever had.
Sometimes the perfect vacation drink is simply a really great cup of coffee.
2. Fresh Coconut Water
Few things say "tropical vacation" like drinking straight from a chilled coconut.
Whether you're relaxing on a Caribbean beach or exploring Southeast Asia, it's refreshing, naturally hydrating, and one of those simple travel experiences you'll always remember.
3. Agua Fresca - Mexico
Made with fresh fruit, water, and just a touch of sweetness, aguas frescas come in flavors like watermelon, pineapple, hibiscus, tamarind, and mango.
They're colorful, refreshing, and the perfect way to cool off after exploring a local market.
4. Italian Lemon Granita
Imagine fresh lemons blended with shaved ice into a light, icy treat on a warm afternoon in Sicily.
It's somewhere between a dessert and a drink, and it's absolutely worth seeking out.
5. Fresh Sugarcane Juice
Watching vendors press fresh sugarcane into a glass right in front of you is part of the experience.
Served ice cold with a squeeze of lime, it's surprisingly refreshing.
6. Tropical Smoothies
Many island destinations feature incredible smoothies made with mango, passion fruit, papaya, dragon fruit, pineapple, and coconut.
Fresh ingredients simply taste different when they're grown just a few miles away.
7. Virgin Piña Colada - Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is famous as the birthplace of the Piña Colada, and the alcohol-free version is every bit as delicious.
Creamy coconut, sweet pineapple, and crushed ice make for one of the ultimate vacation treats.
8. Gourmet Mocktails
Gone are the days when ordering a non-alcoholic drink meant getting a soda with a cherry on top.
Today's resorts are creating beautiful zero-proof cocktails with fresh herbs, house-made syrups, exotic fruits, botanical infusions, and premium alcohol-free spirits. Many luxury properties now feature dedicated mocktail menus because they recognize that not every guest wants alcohol, but everyone deserves something special.
9. Hot Chocolate at a Cacao Plantation
One of my favorite travel memories was visiting cacao plantations in both Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
Seeing chocolate made from bean to bar gave me a whole new appreciation for a simple cup of rich, authentic hot chocolate.
Sometimes travel tastes even better when you know the story behind it.
10. The Ultimate Wellness Escape
One of the most unique destinations I've come across is a luxury resort in the Maldives where alcohol simply isn't part of the experience. Instead, the focus is on wellness, relaxation, incredible cuisine, fresh juices, smoothies, coffees, teas, and beautifully crafted mocktails. It's proof that luxury isn't defined by what's in your glass—it's defined by how you feel while you're there.
My Final Thought
I enjoy a tropical cocktail from time to time. I also love discovering amazing coffee, fresh fruit drinks, handcrafted mocktails, and local specialties wherever I travel.
For me, vacation has never been about alcohol.
It's about slowing down, trying something new, meeting incredible people, and making memories that last long after the glass is empty.
So the next time you travel, don't just order the usual.
Try something local.
You might discover your new favorite vacation drink.
Where travel dreams, late-night planning sessions, and future memories begin.” ✈️💛
